With the largest database on what works in learning and development, our methodology is underpinned by rigour, disciplined innovation, and respect for participant data safety.

Underpinned by rigour

Our methodological approach is pragmatic and depends on the research question(s), budget, time, and ethical considerations. To make sure that our approach is rigorous, whether qualitative or quantitative, we ensure that the way we collect, process, and analyse data is transparent, and results are reproducible and can be validated by other colleagues.
We collect data through a number of tools, partnerships, surveys, and qualitative approaches. Here are two examples of where our data comes from:
Learning Performance Benchmark
The most comprehensive longitudinal review of global L&OD market. 995 L&OD leaders participated in our study in 2020, bringing our total sample size to 9,500.
Learner Intelligence
Largest database of employee behaviour and preferences when it comes to learning and development. We collect data in partnership with organisations that provide us with access to their employees at all levels. In 2020, 6,680 employees participated in our study, bringing the total sample size to 67,000.
All of our research reports are based on primary data collection.

Disciplined innovation

When a statistician, a data scientist, and a qualitative researcher meet, things tend to get experimental. This is where our pragmatic approach comes from, with our methodology always guided by the questions we ask.
We continuously seek to improve our ways of collecting, analysing, and feeding back to the community the insights we glean from data. Being transparent is a key feature of our approach; it helps us gain feedback, improve swiftly, and be disciplined in our direction.

Respect for participant data safety

Respondent anonymity, confidentiality, and autonomy are guiding pillars in how we make choices when it comes to research methodology. We wholeheartedly embrace the notion of data for good, putting the community first is a critical ingredient to good research.
