Getting more from Mind Tools

We know everything is a little topsy-turvy right now. That’s why our Product Development Team is bringing new features, content and updates to our learning solutions – helping people get the support they need.

That could be making resources easy to access from home. Or building bespoke playlists or content packs around topics such as resilience and well-being.

To help us improve, we’ve created a short survey. We’d be grateful if you could spare five minutes to complete it. That way, you can let us know the types of content, resources and features you’d like to see for your learners.

Timely content

Some of the recent resources we’ve created and collated include:

  • A COVID-19 Support Pack to help you and your team stay healthy and productive at this time. Discover how to problem-solve under pressure, motivate virtual teams, and practice mindfulness to stay focused and calm. You can explore this free pack of resources right now.

  • Support for appraisals. Got a quarterly review coming up? Mind Tools is full of tips to make the most of the process. Like our animation – A Guide to Great Goal Setting.

  • 101 E-Learning Suite. Discover quirky and inspiring multi-media content with a focus on boosting practical skills. Our latest e-learning courses include emotional intelligence, resilience and work-life balance.

  • When you choose a Mind Tools toolkit, you also get access to reports which reveal the top topics, media and content that users are looking at.


So far in 2020, infographics, animated videos and how-to guides are the top medium of choice. The hottest topics are confidence, self-development and feedback.

And our most-enjoyed content pieces are The Road to Resilience, Practical Mindfulness and Top Tips for Working from Home.

New features

Here are just some of new features we’ve been working on.

  • A better Activity Feed. We asked our users to help us re-design the Activity Feed section on our homepage which shows which resources people are looking at. We put four variations of the design out to users (thank you if you got involved!). Two came back equally popular so we decided to A/B test the new designs.

    A/B testing allows us to blind test how variations in a new design land with the user. For the Activity Feed re-design, we will show either the existing design (the control group), or one of the new designs, to each user on a random basis. Behind the scenes we will collect the same data on the usage of the feature, irrespective of which design the user is shown.
    This will allow us to make a data-led decision on which design we release to all users. We hope you like the new look designs!

  • Improved usability. It's really important to us that every user has the best possible experience when they’re using the toolkit. Recently we’ve been working with the Royal National Institute for the Blind (RNIB) to make improvements to our accessibility, in line with WCAG 2.0 guidelines. Most of the work is behind the scenes. People with a screen reader or similar accessibility software now benefit from new and improved colour contrasts that improve usability.
    We hope you'll agree everything looks even more fabulous now!

  • Your Happiness Score. We have created a quick survey on the toolkit to ask which elements of the platform users find most useful – and where we can improve. This simple pop up lets users give a quick rating, and also leave comments if they wish. This gives us a useful indication of what we call Your Happiness Score. But we don’t go in for overkill. The survey is only triggered after a user has accessed a resource several times. And it appears just once every three months.
